3 Tips For Preventing Thigh Chafing At The Beach

If you have ever experienced thigh chafing while on the beach, you know just how much it can ruin your good time. Luckily, there are steps that you can take to help prevent it so that you can have a good time while you're enjoying the sand and sun.

1. Rinse and Dry Off Regularly The combination of salt water and sand can serve as an irritant on your skin when your legs rub together, which can make them more susceptible to a chafing-related rash or other discomfort. It's a good idea to use nearby rinse stations -- or to carry your own jugs of water, which will warm up nicely in the sun -- to rinse off regularly. Then, towel off. It's especially important to do this if you're planning on walking up and down the beach or playing a fun game of beach volleyball after laying in the sand or swimming in the surf.

2. Use Chamois Cream for Cyclists Did you know that cyclists often have a leg chafing problem when they enjoy their favorite hobby? In fact, there are products available at most cycling stores that are designed to help with chafing. Purchase a tube of chamois cream for cyclists, and apply it to your thighs and other areas of the body that might be prone to chafing. You may need to reapply throughout the day, but doing so will be well worth it when you're able to prevent uncomfortable chafing while you're on the beach. It works well for other situations in which you're wearing shorts, skirts or dresses, too. Just make sure that you apply sunscreen on top -- once the chamois cream has been rubbed in thoroughly -- to ensure that you are properly protected from the sun.

3. Slip on Long Shorts When You're Not in the Water When you aren't in the water, consider slipping on a pair of long shorts that reach to your knees. Then, if your thighs are covered up, the material of your shorts will rub together rather than leaving the skin on your thighs to rub. Just make sure that you rinse your legs off, or at least brush away any sand, and dry them off thoroughly to avoid unnecessary discomfort.

There is no reason to allow thigh chafing to get in the way of your good time next time that you're at the beach. As long as you're armed with the right stuff, you should be able to prevent this discomfort so that you can focus on enjoying the sand and surf.
